Week Five Day Two Saving Grace

Question 7.

Read Ephesians 2:1-9

Make a list of words or phrases in these verses that describe our condition apart from the grace of God.

Dead in sin.
Walked in sin.
Children of wrath
We did nothing to deserve God's grace.
We have no hope other than through God's grace.
We had no way of overcoming sin without God.
We are condemned.
We deserve death and eternal separation from God.

There is good news, however.  By his grace, God pardons guilty sinners and reconciles them to himself.

Question 8.  In our fallen, sinful condition, God would have been just to let us suffer the consequences of his wrath for all eternity.  Instead, he poured out on us just the opposite.  List four qualities found in Ephesians 2:1-9 that God bestowed on us when we were "dead in our trespasses."

We are saved.
We have hope.
We are able to turn from sin.
We have faith.

What phrase in the above passages make clear that we could not earn or deserve God's grace?

Verses 8-9.

8.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
9.  not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Since the Bible is truth we cannot dispute what the Bible says.  While we might not agree with a verse or a Law, God has those in place for a reason.
